Oh... yes, I took her to the vet and he said she is in good health but didn't offer much about the food question.

Any suggestions? Thanks!

I don't have a cat, but I always fed Max Nutro to my dog and her poop did NOT smell! You might try it. I never knew what it did/did not contain that had that effect, but I sure appreciated it. Maybe there is a cat formula that they produce??

I wish the cat food people would make smaller packages of food available so you can give a taste of something without having to pay full shot for larger bag.

She was a maniac yesterday....... running full speed ahead, all day long. Nighttime is not much better. Have not had a full night sleep since I got her.

How long can she go without eating a "regular" meal?

It took one of my cats 3 + months to accept raw as food. When first offered it she wouldn't even go near her regular food if I placed a dish of raw next to it. I never gave up. Because diet matters.

Now she eats her raw meals with great enjoyment.

Forget about the dry. Feed wet only. Use a probiotic to help her body actually digest the food.

That's what causes odor. Food that is not used, filler, carbs, junk, it just gets pooped out. And it stinks.

Use "incentives" dusted over the top to help encourage her to try them. Examples: PureBites PureBites® Products For Cats | Purebites.com, forti flora (use sparingly), bonita flakes.

Feeding a good healthy species appropriate diet to a cat often takes work. It's worth it. Don't give up!

My cats eat Fancy Feast Classic and Taste of the Wild dry food. The one who barely touches the dry food is the one with the stinkiest poop. When we got her from a rescue we were stunned the first time she pooped in her new home. She had been fed just Purina dry before we brought her home. I think some cats are just stinkers.

I can't argue with that!

It's true that some cats' digestions are just not what they should be. Incidentally I have a friend who feeds her cat Fancy Feast classics exclusively (has had the cat since she was a 2 1/2 month old kitten, has always fed the FF) and she asked me what to do about poop odor. I sent her a bottle of the probiotic I use for 2 of my cats (she's a good friend).

She reported that the probiotics made the difference, and eventually she stopped using them and the odor issue did not return.

So it's always worth trying, worth giving a cat's digestion a little help, no matter what the cause of the problem. A cat's digestive problems can stem from, among other causes, the mother's condition and diet while carrying and nursing, genetics, or a dry diet, especially fed exclusively. If a cat has been on a dry diet a long time, it can take a long time, after the diet change, for a cat to fully heal, if ever. I speak not only from experience, but from devoting a lot of time reading about these matters. There is always tons more to learn, of course.

These examples are assuming more serious health problems have been ruled out (which was stated in the first post) though I don't dismiss the seriousness of idiopathic digestive problems, including excessively foul poop, and the importance in finding the cause and remedy(ies).

She seems very happy with the FF chicken Florentine this afternoon. And she seems to really enjoy the dry food (Beyond) a lot. She is eating good now for the first time since I brought her home from the SPCA. In the beginning she had loose bowels but now graduating to soft to formed. Don't smell anything now but maybe she hasn't gone yet (I haven't checked).

Where do I find probiotics for cats? I'd like to give her some but have no idea where to buy it. I looked in Petco but did not see it.

Thank you all again so much for your help.

If you want a "for pets" product I would recommend ProViable. One of my cats takes this for her evening probiotic, and she takes another more specific probiotic in the morning (she's the one who has the permanent damage from a dry diet)

For the other two cats, who are healthy and have no digestive problems having eaten canned and raw all their lives, I use this one:

Cats "enjoy" dry food because it is sprayed with animal digest and other fats and salts to make it appealing to them. Otherwise they would never eat it.

It is not good for them and is likely to have long term detrimental effects.
