I have stand-up pee-ers as well and have experienced puddles outside the entrance of the box. It's from walking straight in and letting it fly. I have a very large high side litter box and I notice pee streaks on the back wall as well. I have placed a plastic boot tray outside the entrance to the litter box and it makes these incidents much easier to clean up. It also helps with litter scatter.
So, I have cat (roughly 2 years old) that will randomly pee in front of the litter box. The litter box is ALWAYS kept fresh and clean. She doesn't do it all the time, she does it in "spurts". For example, 6 months will go by with no problems, then randomly she'll pee right in front of the litter box a few times for a week or so and then goes back to normal.
I've tried to figure out why, but have had no luck. Any idea what's going on?
My Ragdoll 14 yr. old did that several times over a year ago, right outside one corner of the box, totally out of the blue. She is in excellent health, no other pets in the house, very laid back etc. never any problems with her. Box always impeccably clean, no issue there, and it is "private" in the laundry room.
Do you have a covered box or an open box? The vet said to get a new open box, new brand of liners, etc. So I bought a new large box, liners that fit well, same litter (Dr.Elsey's, been using it for years) I keep at least 3" in it all the time -- problem solved.

That's a good idea. I tried a mat, but it was not as easy to clean as I'd hoped. Thanks!
Also want to add my thumbs up for boot trays (you can get them pretty inexpensively on Amazon) and Nature's Miracle, which I have been using for over 30 years. If you have wood or linoleum floors, some of the hard plastic boot trays may slide around too much. I solved that problem by buying a flexible one.

I have my litter box/boot tray placed on top of one of those rugs with pretty deep channels that you can find at your local big box hardware stores. They are probably called utility rugs. It drastically reduces litter all over my floors and I can take them outside and hose 'em off when needed. Placing everything on these rugs keeps my floors safe and is especially helpful when fur balls are hacked up (Momo usually seeks out a rug for some reason and it's a blessing when he chooses this one).
Next time I catch my cat going in the "kitty room" to use the litter box, I'll Try to quietly observe to see if she really is just over shooting!
Maybe you can set up a Kitty Cam!
