On of my dogs was taken in by my cat who had kittens. She nursed him a little, but he snuggled with them and she always licked him clean. Even when he was grown he'd clean himself if he could reach it.

The youngest of my dogs came as a little puppy, and has been raised with cats. She also cleans her self, and greets her kitties with a friendly few licks, like they do each other. Its amazing how behavior can be learned and even taught as a social norm.
