There can be several issues at play, even though she seems happy stress could be a factor, is there anything that she could be responding to, loss of a household member, other animals new or old, kids bugging her, birds taunting her outside the window. Believe it or not even that can stress out a high strong cat. Does she have fleas? Does she have worms or parasites, allergies, does she over groom, some high strong cats can have mild forms of OCD and we never notice it until its pointed out to us. Take her to the vet and have all these things checked out, he will do a feces sample, and also check her hormones.

The only thing I say yes to is birds. She sits at the window and watches them all day (indoor cat). There is snow, cold here so fleas are probably not a factor. Stress? hmmmm, I had a cat years ago who lost alot of hair when I dropped her off at my folks why we went on vacation, but I am not finding hair around here (where could it go? )or any stressful changes.. Thanks for the ideas, I do plan on taking her in.

Shes probably ingesting the hair, make sure you give her some hairball preparation once or twice a week until you find out for sure whats going on, even though she may not be showing signs of it now, she could start, gagging and vomiting, all because of large hairball, so that old saying a ouch of pervention.....is good here
