I've only done it once in all of my adulthood (40+ years) of having cats, and Rocky was a Maine Coon to top it all off. Bad, bad idea especially with a long haired cat. Cats do not like baths at all. Then with a Maine Coon you have to deal with drying them and combing out all that fur or they will be all matted.

When Rocky was 22 years old and started having loose bowels, I went out and bought those wet shampoo wipes for cats to clean him. I was not going to subject the poor old man to another bath at his age. He would have had a heart attack.
