Good question, as we just got a new upholstered bed. Our last bed had massive wooden posts/rails that our cats scratched. Over the years, it started to look horrible. We just got a new bed frame that has cloth upholstered side rails/foot boards (low to the ground) and a massive headboard. They have scratched a few times, but it seems they are not doing it too much anymore. I know our one cat can jump up to the top of the headboard and just lay on top of it and walk back and forth. Ugh....so aggravating.

I have 1 cat and I have an upholstered headboard. She loves scratching it, so I bought a slipcover to cover the whole thing. One of the best buy I made! This will save your headboard

I don't know if they would try scratching the headboard and I certainly can't spray water at them.

Anybody here have upholstered headboard and cats?
We've had one for several years. We have four cats. There was a little scratching early on, but now the only problem--if you can call it that--is a good layer of fur in certain spots where various kitties take naps. We love the company.

And even if they didn't... you know kitty will rub their face continually over it.

I'm constantly cleaning kitty "dirt" from the sides of my white cabinets, doors and millwork. Why they think they have to mark every edge in the house is beyond me.

It is comforting to a cat to have his or her smells all around them, and of course the smells have to be continuously refreshed.
