I'm sorry to hear about Jinx. I went through the same thing with Snickers, and had another two years with him (and some people have more) thanks to the Feline Chronic Kidney Disease FB group. Everyone on there is very helpful, and you'll get all the advice and information that you need.
My daughter and I both joined this group last night. We are both feeling more positive after reading through the discussions... at least in the sense that we can make his remaining time comfortable.
Thanks all for the very kind comments. I've been battling an upper respiratory infection for several days so I haven't been very active. Still feeling weak today, but better.
As of Saturday, Jinx was responding well to fluids but not eating yet. The vet is closed for the New Year (Jinx is under hospitalization so he is cared for) but there has been no new news - which is at least not worse news.
I will keep you updated and again, thank you for your thoughts, prayers and kind words.
This happened to my Smokey. His numbers were very bad. He lived another 8 months with at home IV fluids. I hope your Jinx will do well with the fluids too. ((((hugs))))
DM me if you have any questions or want to talk about it.
The vet has been closed since 12/29 but the techs kept us updated. The vet reopened today and called us to pick up Jinx. He was still not eating much on his own, but it was enough to gain some of his weight back. He seemed pretty happy to see us and didn't mind the subQ fluids. The vet also suggested that his kidney failure may be acute based on some of the other numbers in his lab, but he wanted Jinx to be home for a few days to see if he began eating.
My daughter and I were ecstatic to be bringing him home, even if only for a short time. Before we could get a block away, Jinx experienced some sort of respiratory distress. He began wheezing and gasping for air. He was visibly uncomfortable in his crate as he spun in circles and appeared to be attempting to crawl out of his skin. His lips were turnng blue. We immediately rushed him back to the vet.
After 20 minutes or so, the doctor said he was stable after placing him on oxygen and his color had returned. We asked to see him again.... he looked much better. But we are yet again leaving the vet without him.
