Is there much difference in the following (obviously Limited has fewer ingredients):

- Blue Buffalo Healthy Gourmet Indoor Chicken
- Blue Basics Limited Ingredient Diet
- Blue Buffalo Freedom Indoor

Probably not much difference. The labels are most likely just marketing schemes. Look at the ingredients.

Thanks for the reply.

After doing some research I thought that the freedom version was the only one that was truly grain free?

Then that would be the one to use in a rotation with other foods.

obviously, however I'm trying to get further clarification on the actual differences between the three mentioned.

As for quality, there is unlikely to be any difference, the only difference will be in what the food contains. Look at the ingredients, and decide which ones you'd rather your cat didn't have.

FYI, when I have a question like this, I email the manufacturer directly and ask. They should be able to clarify.

Good to know I was hoping to hear from some others on the board that have looked at these previously.

I don't know about anyone else, but I'm not a huge fan of Blue Buffalo. I found out years ago through this site, this very subforum, about catinfo.org and I've never looked back. And BB was one of few pet food manufacturers who would not respond to inquiries about actual percentages of carbs, protein and fats in the food. They said that was "proprietary information."

Then I spoke to my vet, and he said that he also did not trust Blue, because there had been some very serious issues with some of their products and recalls and animals actually dying. That he did not feel that the canned cat food specifically had any known issues at this time, but with a company that had as many problems as they did...he just did not recommend them. He also said that he had tried to call with questions and was given no answers.

I mean the thing is, their packaging and marketing is amazing. But your cat doesn't care about that. That is intended to persuade the human with the wallet, to buy. I feel the same about these foods that advertise as "Turkey dinner with carrots and wild rice" or whatever, they describe it like a human meal. The cat doesn't need a human meal. He doesn't need the plants! While that can may or may not have more filler than the Fancy Feast chunky chicken...just the fact that they think I'm going to be like, "Oh, rice and carrots, mm lovely, I'm sure kitty will be pleased, mm..." I'm not an idiot. It's almost insulting. Top notch marketing might not equal top notch food.
