Hardly news to use cat lovers, but at least somebody's finally doing research on this to confirm what us cat lovers already know:

Cats Like People! (Some People, Anyway)
Quote:
In the perennial battle over dogs and cats, there’s a clear public relations winner.

Dogs are man’s best friend. They’re sociable, faithful and obedient. Our relationship with cats, on the other hand, is often described as more transactional. Aloof, mysterious and independent, cats are with us only because we feed them.

Or maybe not. On Monday, researchers reported that cats are just as strongly bonded to us as dogs or infants, vindicating cat lovers across the land.

I know this to be true. My introverted cat, Patrick, builds lasting bonds with people. I know this because he will shy away from strangers, but will remember people he hasn’t seen in literally years when they come to visit and will quickly warm back up to them.

Renly on the other hand loves everyone. Especially those bearing edible gifts.

Aloof? What kind of cats do these people know -- ferals? All my cats have been my friends: from the big shaggy part-Maine Coon who shared my quarters for 16.5 years, to the incredibly smart black lady cat who loved to walk on a lead, to the shy little tuxedo cat someone named for a certain cookie, to the clever Siberian girl who pulled open drawers to get to her toys, to the two thuggish but companionable males who live with me now.

They like our company above and beyond what we can do for them (mostly that's food, but also entertainment).
