Buster prefers to drink from the bathtub faucet. I have to let it drip and he puts his arm up on the wall to let the water drip on him and then he licks it off. He only drinks out of his bowl as a last resort. I'll try to get a picture of him doing this and post it. Shouldn't be hard!
one of our boys is such a scaredy cat, if we enter the laundry room where when he's in the litterbox he hauls butt out of there sending litter flying everywhere. If we dare to "disrupt" him while he's drinking or eating he gives one of his little "squeaks" and takes off..Cats are such funny, interesting animals. Im guilty of loving all animals though.
My cat Candy drinks alot of water from a self waterer( is this a real word) anyway, when she runs out she comes and gets me and takes me to bathroom and stands and stares at toilet until I fill her jug back up. I guess she knows their is water in there but has never drank from toilet. She also eats from a self feeder but prefers to lay down to eat so I put food on floor for her. Makes the wife upset though.
Unfortunately, my cat DOES drink from the toilet!! Not interested in any water in a bowl, nowhere, nohow. I got him from a shelter as a fairly young kitten and he came with that habit....funny thing is, the dog would never drink from the toilet!
I think it is a predatory/survival thing since they are vulnerable while they drink/eat. Mine wouldn't drink or eat when I was around until we got acquainted and now he's biting at my legs in the morning to get me moving toward the bowl and could care less if I'm still there when he starts eating/drinking.
Oh and on the litter thing. My box is just on the other side of the wall from the toilet (both facing the same way like stalls in a bathroom). My wack job of a cat will run in when he hears me heading for the bathroom and either jump in his box and go to work or demand attention while I'm trying to work. It's like a game, no privacy, lol.
My cat who just passed away, his name was Rufus, he used to bathe his paws in the water bowl instead of drinking from it. He didn't care if we watched and laughed out butts off about it.
I think lynx must be a desert night animal, as my big girl usually only drinks late at night. I can hear her slurping when I have already gone to bed. She has several water bowls throughout the house and one on the deck. Occasionally will see her in early evening drinking outside. She doesn't seem to mind my looking at her drink or eat, as long as I keep a distance. When I give her food or a "treat", she will reach up and scratch or try to grab/bite my hand. Don't know what that is all about! Biting the hand that feeds her....
