Default Do your cats prefer premium food or less expensive food?

We recently switched from Nutro dry cat food to Solid Gold Indigo Moon dry cat food. Our kitten was throwing up and we thought it might be the Nutro dry food, so we removed it and he stopped, so we will not feed Nutro cat food again. Anyhow, we had been offering the Solid Gold as a second dry food option, but the cats much preferred Nutro. Now we are offering Solid Gold and Wellness dry as their dry cat foods, and we feed a can of wet food every other day, usually Wellness or another premium canned food.

They love the premium canned food, but tend not to like the premium dry food. Any thoughts on other premium dry food to try? Do your cats prefer less expensive type food over the premium kind?

I use the Pet Promise dry food from Whole Foods, as well as Bench and Field from Trader Joe....supplement with 1/2 can per day of either Whole Foods or Pet Promise wet foods.
My cats like all of these. They are not cheap, but are not the priciest, either.

I would not use the cheaper foods, as they have meat by-products which are not healthy.
Nutro had the wheat gluten from China, so I stopped using that as well.

I wish my cats would accept premium food, but they would only eat Fancy Feast that contains by-products and gluten. I am concerned about that but they just wouldn't touch good food. But they did accept Blue Buffalo dry food, which seems to be made of the finest ingredients.

I've had really good success with Felidae, Natural Balance Regular and Green Pea and Duck, as well as California Natural.

My pet supply store will give me samples of any premium food to try, I always recommend getting samples of a couple brands to let your kitty try.

If you really want them to eat "better" foods that they choose not to touch then you Must be very patient. Mixing the foods together for a few days, not giving in to their "hunger" they Will eat when they are hungry so they may choose not to eat these good foods for a day or 2 or 3... But they Will learn and then really love it!!!
Really this is True! I had to do it with my girls cuz they were eating "bad" foods... Now they love their foods! I Know that they feel Soooo much better, in every way and I am so excited to have learned about the Pet Food Industry so I could Now make great food choices for them...

Our cats get Blue Buffalo dry food -- they like the chicken and brown rice. Our cats won't eat anything that didn't sport feathers when it was alive.

My cat will eat only Purina indoor cat formula dry. She will not eat other dry foods. She refuses to come near wet foods. She would not approach the bowl until washed several times when I tried tuna.

This makes her easy to feed but hard when she has to have pills. She doesn't like treats either.

I feed my cat mostly canned food with some dry to nibble on in between meals. I feed them EVO from Innova which contains no by-products and it's grain free. Vets do not recommend starving your cat for more than 24 hours because it can cause liver damage when they are breaking down fats for body fuel. Good luck!

I thik I must have the two most unfussy cats around. they eat pretty much anything I make for them from the fridge or pantry - I should add that I am careful to give them fresh food and balanced nutrition, not junk food
