NEW YORK (AP) -- Trial has begun for a baseball player-turned-actor accused of brutally killing a cat in a jealous rage after complaining that his ex-girlfriend cared more for the furry feline than she did for him.

This kind of thing makes me sick. This guy has serious problems and I hope the judge throws the book at him. Unfortunately, animal cruelty doesn't mean much to our society yet. People, including our lawmakers, need to recognize that this sort of thing is indicative that someone is unstable enough to do this to another person. The girlfriend should feel lucky that the guy didn't do this to her.
I have to question her judgement too. She's only dated him for 6 weeks and she just goes to bed during a heated argument after he's been drinking! Then she leaves the idiot in her house with her cat in his condition. Doesn't this ditz realize that you can't possibly know someone well enough after such a short time to know what they'll do when angry, much less drinking. I think her complete lack of thought contributed to this sad ending.

I don't watch much tv or go to any movies, but for those of you who do, it is time to boycott anything that he is in. In fact, I think that really should apply to any entertainment people who do cruel things including DUI, drug possession, etc. These are the "role models" for our young people even if they don't want to be. It is time to send a message that we expect adult behavior from adults. As for a plea deal for this guy, he needs the same treatment as Norman. It is time that our legal system got a backbone. Sorry that I am ranting.

It's a good idea, but he was a pretty minor actor, and CNN says lately he'd been supporting himself by bartending and waiting tables.

It's hard to get your point across by boycotting; the actor isn't the only one who suffers, since there are hundreds if not thousands of people who work on films, tv shows and theater productions. More likely, a boycott would just hurt the background people.

Sam I Am,

Apologies. It was my understanding that a copyright image was acceptable so long as the link was posted with it...
