Hi,
quick question: How many times do you feed your cat in a day?
I have a 2 yr old female maine coon, she weighs around 10.5 lbs.

I give her a 3oz pouch(special kitty brand - wet food) every morning(between 7am-9am) and a 3oz pouch evening(between 7pm-9pm). I leave dry food in a bowl and fresh water in a water feeder for her out all day. she does graze the dry food few times during the day.
she sleeps all day from 10/11 am to 5-6 pm. so there is no way i can give her food during the day.

the pouches and cans talk about feeding your cat 3 times a day and i am wondering if i am underfeeding my cat!!

-Thanks

We have 2 cats. We feed them once in the morning and once at night. Generally dry in the morning and wet a night. If they eat all of their food in the morning, they go the entire day with water only. Our cats (I've had cats now for over 20 years) have all lived many years.

I feed my cats wet food once each day when I first wake up. The rest of the day, they can have all the dry food they want and any mice they catch.

My big boy Tommy eats wet food both in the morning and night. We leave dry food in the bowl at all times. He used to be lean and mean when he belonged to my daughter and went indoors/outdoors. We've had him for 2 years and he is totally an inside cat now. He has gotten quite large now that he isn't outside roaming/hunting.

For years, I free fed my guys with just wet food in the morning. In the last few years, my Maine Coon/Persian mix has gotten quite large. In speaking with the vet, he really dislikes dry foods and convinced me to go with an all wet food diet. So my guys get fed wet in the early mornings and then again around 4ish. At first they were visiting the utility room often, looking for that extra snack...but have all fallen into the new routine nicely. My biggest boy has lost 2 lbs in just 1 month. Two others each lost a l lb...they could afford to as well...and my 2 little girls have maintained, which is what I had hoped for.

We leave out dry food for them to eat whenever... however, it is sort of a bad idea because they are kind of chunky and eat when they are bored :P

I feed my 3 cats 1 handfull of KD in the morning and again in the evening. One is quite chunky at 17-18 lbs. and the other 2 are a good weight. Sometimes the chunker will wake me up in the night to give him a snack. I know I shouldn't but if I don't, he starts knockng things over and making a mess until I do. So, I give in and all 3 get a small snack of KD. That's all the 2 who have damaged kidneys from the tainted food of 2007 can eat.

Your "chunker" sounds like mine! Mine bites when she doesn't get food (who's the boss?) every 4 hours day OR night! She does better in the summer when she catches grasshoppers for snacks.
