Hi all,
Millie(my very first cat) adopted us 3 months back. she came to our patio door and has been with us since then.
I had taken her to the vet 2 months back to get her vaccinated. I asked the doctor if she was spayed and he said he couldn't say since he didn't see any stitch marks. But he said he could do a small surgery to check this!!. I did not opt for it.
Is there any other way that i can find it out? Because if she is spayed then i don't have to worry about sending her outside to graze/hunt otherwise I will be taking the precautions. as per doctor she is between 18mnths - 2yrs.

-Thanks

Has your cat gone through heat?? It consists of raising her back end high into the air and crying really loud and obnoxiously.... If she DOESN'T go through heat then she is very likely spayed.

Yeah, I would wait to see if she goes in heat like KH02 said before I would go for the check surgery...

That seems like a waste of money to me and even more, putting the cat thru an un-needed surgery...I would definately keep her indoors tho until you find out for sure, or you may have an unwanted litter. If she has not been spayed, a heat will come along and she'll let you know for sure! I know of no other way than checking for surgery scars.

And rubbing the side of her body against the floor or anything else, making desperate chirring noises, doing little dances, and generally acting like she's gonna die if she doesn't get some now!

Yeah, I've had a cat or two that's been through that.

We had a stray adopt us. We took her to the vet to be spayed and have some abcesses cleaned and drained. The vet called us about an hour later and told us that she had already been spayed. They found the scar after shaving her belly.

Female cats can have babies all year long! There's no "kitten season" if you will. And you really don't wanna know how I know this!

And I'm with molochai2580... all my vet had to do was shave and look for an obvious scar. Surgery to find out? Sounds to me like the vet has a car payment to make and needs the funds for it.

An unspayed female will put her butt up to you in the air and scream for sex. Or was that my ex...?
