Kitty Litter---is it flushable?
We have been on a septic system for 20 years and never flushed litter waste down the toilet. Now we are moving and we'll be on city sewer and are wondering if it is safe and correct to flush litter waste?

It will not flush. It is clay and will plug your drains.

Some litters are biodegradable and thus flushable. It will clearly say so on the packaging if it is. Flushable litter is generally a bit more expensive than the regular, non-flushable clay litter.

Even if it says flushable, I still would not recommend it. A plugged main drain line can get pretty costly.

As posted above, some say "flushable"....ALL clumping litters are definately not! Even flushing the stools with some of litter attached can pose a problem. (So I am told by a plumber)

Don't flush anything down a system connected to a public wastewater treatment plant that you wouldn't flush down a system connected to a septic tank.
Including cat litter.

Swheat cat litter claims it is totally flushable because it is made from wheat, not clay, and therefore completely biodegradable. However, it stinks to high heaven!

There are some brands of clumpable that are flushable, Arm and Hammer makes one.
Worlds Best Cat Litter is corn based and flushable, it's the best litter I've ever used, but expensive.
