All my cat eats is Iams hairball food. Not one single hairball since. Well worth the price not to have to clean that crap up! She won't touch any food other than her cat food. Not even shrimp. the laxatone thing was a total pain and extremely stressful to her.

I'd probably go that route also, but my kitty is noticeably overweight. Just mixing in a little hairball recipe takes care of 99% of his hairball problem.
Just be careful while using special "hairball treatment foods" it made my peanut really sick and urinate blood. It is very irritating on their systems. Pumpkin added to their food really works!!!

Thanks for stopping by! I have discovered that my cat not only will not eat much "commercial" or name-brand pumpkin, but the only kind that works to keep him from yakking up hairballs and everything else he eats is the organic kind!
Now I buy it in bunches of cans just to be sure I don't run out for even one day!
Thank you all for the pumpkin trick. My cats make me feel guilty with the laxatone cause they hate it when i smear it on their paw cause they won't lick it off my finger. I am going to try the pumpkin routine and see if that helps. Really thank again everyone.
Marie
I had butter suggested as a remedy a while ago and it has worked wonders with our fosters (especially the long haired ones) so I just give them a little bit of butter every once in a while and we no longer have hairball problems. I think it does help to feed canned food in addition, but the butter really helps. The dogs are really disappointed about that.
I'm trying this for the first time. So, exactly how much of the pumpkin do you give them? A teaspoon with their night time dinner? Or less than that?
Great Idea!! Cheap too! I just went out and bought some Nutri-Vet Hairball Paw Gel, and neither of my cats will eat it. They had a puking contest today and I'm done playing that game! hahaha

Reason: not detailed enough
my tiffany burmese ragdoll has been gagging and looks very unhappy, not her usual self. we have a new stray kitten we adopted and wondering if the kitten is making her sick or if she just has a hairball. she coughed one up a few weeks ago but she seemed quite fine then. she has fresh water and lives on dry cat bicuits since little. she seems to be eating still but i am very concerned as she keeps looking at me to help but i dont know what to do

Please take Tiffany to the vet, that's the first thing to do.
And then start reading about feline nutrition and get her on a good canned diet. (and the kitten, too)
