Default Oh Nooo... 5 week old Bella has diarrhea...Help

Hi agian,

It's Saturday night and Bella has watery diarrhea. I don't know what to do now. She's been eating Science Diet kitten minced food along with Science Diet hard food soaked in water. (it's too hard to chew)

Earlier today, the stool was fine. Can I feed her white rice to bind her?

Can anyone tell me what I can do to help her? She's very active, running around. Ate well this morning, not too much this evening.

She is 5 weeks old at this point.

Thanks !!!!!!!

What breed / species is Bella? And where is Bella's mom?

Both of those things will make a huge difference in the answer to your question.

oh sorry, I posted a thread last week about getting Bella.

We found her. She is a stray. Vet estimated her to be 4 weeks. Kitten.

In kittens, it is most likely a parasitic infection. Time to go to the vet and get a fecal test run.

At her age, diahrrea can be a a sign of disease or parasites, however as you have had her examined by the vet she may just be reacting to the change in her food. Cats are very sensitive to changes in their diet. Adding something else to her diet right now may make it worse. Give her a few days to see if she adjusts. If not, call your vet.

Diarrhea in a kitten that young could spell trouble. Watch for dehydration! It can happen quickly!

Since it's too late to get her to the vet anymore tonight, the only thing you can do is to make sure she has plenty of fresh water, and try to help her tummy with "over-the-counter" remedies. When we found a stray who had diarrhea, our vet recommended feeding him canned pumpkin.

**Important** NOT pumpkin pie filling, but plain canned pumpkin, like Libby's 100% Pure Pumpkin.

The fiber in the pumpkin acts as a binder. Add a tablespoon to her food, or, if necessary, smear some on the roof of her mouth.

Good luck and I hope she feels better soon!

Great advice! Pumpkin...and as stated above...PLAIN, no spices added, is great for cats and dogs. I always keep some on hand for just this thing.

Do you think a tablespoon might be a bit much for a tiny 5 week old kitten? I have no experience with this remedy, I'm just curious what you think.

A tsp. might be more appropriate for one so small. I doubt if she could get a full tbsp in!
