I've recently moved to Jacksonville, NC, and I'm finding that the limited ingredient diet (LID) that my geriatric cat eats is not available without a prescription here. He has been eating the Natural Balance Duck and Green Peas or Venison and Green Peas. Peas are the magic ingredient, I think - he needs a high-bulk diet to avoid constipation.
I am about to run out of his dry food. I either have to drive to another city to buy what he's been eating, go pay a vet fee and the inflated price of the prescription diet, or pay an inflated cost to order the food via internet. Or, I'm thinking, maybe I could make it.
Green peas are readily available, and a duck from the freezer case isn't that expensive.
Has anyone done this? Any guidance would be appreciated!
You would have to do a search of vitamins and nutrients that would need to be added to forfill your dogs everyday needs. Unfortunately, it is not that easy to just say feed peas and duck. If you look at the ingredients listed on the bag, there are a heck of alot more in there than just those 2 ingredients.
Researching a "raw food" diet may help with what you need to know.
Sorry....I meant to say "cats needs"
I know taurine is only one of a few that would need to be added for a cats dietary health.
