Default im having a bad day

I had Otto for 9 months he was a really small kitten when I got him, I picked him up basically from the street he was only about 4 weeks old. I spend a fortune on Otto, however Otto had serious health problems, that this weekend it came to a head. He was so sick, I took him again to the vet and the vet said, look let me keep him, run some serious CAT scans, MRIs and get him healthy for basically the fee of putting him down. He wants to find out whats wrong, see if it could be fixed , get him healthy and then keep him. I said ok, I do not have the money for MRIs, cat scans and I have already spent 2000 dollars on all the vet visits and treatments and medicine. Its gotton out of control. Now I feel tremendous guilt. I am grateful for the vet taking him and doing all this and then really findout whats wrong with Otto. The problems I had were Otto eating non stop, I mean non stop, not gaining weight, yacking and loose watery stool no matter what I did. I tried it all. Medication, worms stuff, food, vet visits, I lost count . Otto seemed in pain all the time and miserable.

I am having a hard time with this decision. I mean should I have wiped out my whole bank account? This is eating me up. Its been since Saturday and I just want to run and go get him. I wish I had all the money but its getting so expensive and Otto is so sick.

My heart hurts. I do plan on finding another cat. Not a little this little, a cat that I know is healthy I cant go thru this pain again. I just wanted to tell you this. I am upset thinking this little guy misses me and is all alone and thinks I dumped him. I did not. I am happy that the vet is going to try all these expensive tests and cure him hopefully. He said he would call me if its an easy fix but he said we tryed alot of things so its now the big money things.

Thanks

Cats are members of our families and you are faced with difficult decisions. It sounds to me that you have made the right one. You're lucky to have a vet who is willing to take over the care of your pet and treat him. You need not feel any guilt over this. I think you have done the right thing for your cat.

Yake care.

Oh...I am so sorry. I remember well when you brought the little guy home! I think there is no reason for you to feel guilty. You've done what you were able to do...and what more could one ask? It was a very tough decision for you, I'm sure. Otto may never be a healthy normal cat...and when funds are limited, it is just not possible to keep paying out.
I hope a little furry furkid is in the near future for you...one you can share your heart with again.

Don't blame yourself, I'm sorry you had to go thru everything and I hope the vet finds some answers, sounds like you did the best you could do but at some point you have to be practical. THese are hard times for us all, it sounds like he's in good hands and hopefully when the time is right, you'll be able to adopt again, there are so many needy animals out there.

im sick over it. I cant believe how lousy I feel. I mean when Otto was here it was constant work, cleaning sickness from both ends 2 /3 times a day. Now that he is gone, I just cant believe now terrible and Lonely I feel without him. He was like a sick toddler. I know I did the right thing, it just sucks.

The good news is I know this vet is a good honest guy. He was not bull crapping me. I thought to myself he is just lying to me and the minute I leave he is going to kill him but then I said boy I AM LOSING IT. This is a nice vet, and I believe him. He could fix otto is its not so so bad. Look I just feel bad, I spent all day cleaning ottos messes. It was bad, but I got used to it!! Even thought it was really bad, it we suffered together. I know that sounds crazy, but I loved him.

I am going to call the vet in a few days and if its not over the top bad, maybe we could work something out. I feel lost without him. He was in pain and did not purr too much but when he did it helped us both.

If this does not work out I am getting a cat.

I think it might help you to spend some time at your local animal shelter. They usually have quite a few healthy, but adult, cats just waiting for a good home.My son has 3 cats he acquired from animal shelters. Two of them had been unceremoniously dumped while pregnant. The third dumped when it was no longer kitten cute. All great pets.

If you have the time you can visit often and get to know a cat and more importantly it can get to know you before you take it home.

SO sorry you and Otto are having to go through this. I'm sure you gave him a good home and kept him alive much longer than he would have lived on the street. Sometime animals as well as people have terminal conditions - I hope that is not the case with Otto. My thoughts are with you both.
