I've heard of mixing Borax and salt, then putting on the rug. But I think that I'm going to stick to Sevin, vacuuming more often, and Advantage.

We had hurricane charlie a couple of years ago and shortly thereafter products like frontline and advantage were not working as effectively as they had prior to the hurricane. Lots of animals here were suffering. Turns out the hurricane had brought up a different kind of flea from the carribean with it and the products were not effective against that type of flea! They have subsequently been reformulated, but it took about a year for the new product. Any weather events that may have precipitate a flea migration from neighboring states in your area?

Also at one point frontline had to be reformulated (according to my vet) because fleas had developed a resistance to it. That's when I learned about capstar. I wonder if that might not be true for Advantage?

I'm in San Diego, and the weather is basically the same year round. Sunny!

A neighbor that doesn't have any pets, complained that they also have fleas. They moved in recently, and the prior tenants didn't have pets. My next door neighbor hosed down all the grassy areas, and said that it may help. When I get my next unemployment check, I'm taking everything possible to the laundromat, and spreading Sevin5 dust in the bedroom. Lack of funds has kept me from doing sooner, so I spray my bed and bedding with Sevin spray when I get up in the morning, which helps temporarily.

Carbaryl (1-naphthyl methylcarbamate)...is sold under the brand name Sevin.

Carbaryl is a cholinesterase inhibitor and is toxic to humans.

It is classified as a likely human carcinogen by the United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA.)

The amount that I use isn't toxic. I use a light spray, I don't saturate it.

I wouldn't want to spray toxic chemicals inside my house, especially on my bed, regardless of what the amount was.

But I guess it's OK if you believe that "a little poison won't kill you".

By the time I go to bed, it's gone. To keep the flea population down, something effective has to be used, and it's normally some sort of poison. Apparently the Sevin is more effective than the Borax, so that's what will be used.

You can never go past Revolution, I started using it from the start and will never change. Its kills fleas with in a couple of hours of treatment and each dose last for around 4 weeks. It also Kills off the whole life cycle of fleas it also does ear mites and a few otherings, including a worm that nothing else treats except for Revolution.

I'll have to check the prices, maybe I should try Revolution. But the big problem here is the dry grass, and that's where the fleas area.
