You and your husband have my sincere condolences. It is such a difficult thing to do but Mike is no longer in any pain or discomfort. May your hearts and spirits be lightened.

Thanks everyone for your kind words. Mike is now at peace. We have to find our own peace, too. His time had come, his life was no longer a joy but a burden to him, he's happy now at the Bridge.

I read my children the Rainbow Bridge poem, my son cried. They've had this cat most of their lives. Tomorrow starts a new day without Mike, but he will always be with us in spirit. he was truly a King Cat, a huge boy, proud, loyal, one of the best cats I've ever had!

Don't be surprised if a new one comes into your life. Just when you think ok, no one new, someone finds a little bundle of fur than needs a home.
Sweet dreams to you and your wee ones. We are thinking about you.

we've all been there and it doesn't get any easier. I'm sorry for your suffering and you know what you need to do. Mike will be better off without all his pain suffering.

Mike is gone, and I'm at peace.

Its hard to do, but once its done, you know you did the right thing. His last days were good, he went without pain and suffering.

Our vet did it for no charge, which totally surprised us! We expected to pay something, but he offered it as a gift. It must be hard for the vet and staff to do, they have emotions, too. I would like to do something, perhaps send a basket of fruit, cookies, something for the staff to show my appreciation?

Also, today, we "worked off" our grief by voluntering at an animal shelter. We scrubbed floors, cleaned cages, helped with laundry, all the dirty work. It felt good to do something for the living. a lady from church suggested it, so we headed over there this afternoon. Problem is.....so many cute little kitties, puppies, older animals............it was all we could do to keep from coming home with another furbaby, perhaps later?

We also donated Mikes stroller, they said it could come in handy there. Still, now that its night, I look for Mike to cuddle with. He's having a ball roaming the catnip fields of heaven!

Awww you're such wonderful people.
That really is uplifting to not only you but everyone reading it, and inspiration to pass it forward.

I will do just that, to honor you.

I am so glad you are ok. No doubt a new fur-person will find you when you are ready... there are so many out there that need homes.
Reading about these stories makes my heart heavy...but it is part of sharing our life with our furry friends and the best thing we can do for them is letting the end of their life be free from pain and suffering... as you did for your sweet Mike.

marylee54: Wow, the vet did it for no charge? That is amazing. Yes, I'd say a gift is in order!

By all means, get another kitty to cuddle with. It is appalling to think about how many are put to sleep daily because no one wants them.

I am terribly sorry for your loss!

There's nothing wrong with a fruit basket, cookies, brownies, etc for a gift to your vet.

When the time is right another furbaby will come your way! Think of the life you can be saving when you do.
