When I walked onto my back porch after first getting hit with the news, I was greeted by chickadees bouncing through the air from tree to tree making their buzzing noises. Though they always lighten my heart, that was my exact reaction too.
I of course feel badly for Mike and empathize with his people, but I smiled at the thought of his getting wheeled around to enjoy the outdoors at least at that level. Anybody who loves an elderly relative will have the same mixed emotions as they guide the relative's wheelchair through the park or restaurants, museums, etc. Life with all its richness is still there to be partaken of, by human and cat alike, and those who allow the "physically challenged" to still be involved are my kind of persons.
Here's hoping the suggested treatment works. Anyone who rolls their eyes at the thought of shelling out big bucks for a pet's medical needs hasn't owned a pet. I have a few - very few, lol - valuables that I'd part with if it meant making Weasie's life better and longer. So no explaining to me is necessary.

Bad news, I took Mike to the vet this morning, he has cancer in the lungs. Get this---they never did a full body x-ray before! All those tests, and not a simple full body x-ray. But if they did and it revealed cancer in the lungs we wouldn't be any further ahead, once it reaches the lungs its fatal.
He was having toruble breathing, they gave him oxygen, then suggested we either keep him there or bring him home. One half day of oxygen would have cost about $400! Also, I didn't think the stress would have done him any good. His breathing was better, they also gave him some prednsione and pain meds. I'm trying to find a vet to com to the house to have him PTS. He seems better now, its a hard decision to make, but better now while he's at peace than later when things advance.
We are looking at Friday to have him PTS. So between now and then, just try to keep my baby comfortable. He actually ate something today, seemed to want a lot of water, he hung around me all day. I took him for a ride in his pet stroller, he seems to enjoy that, but you have to go when there's no kids around, it attracts a crowd, which upsets him.
We've talked on this thread about quality of life, well, his is going downhill, I don't see it improving, and it will just get worse. Either PTS now, or let nature take its course and a slow, painful death later when he can't breathe. I don't want him to go like that.
For right now, just keep him comfortable. My baby has been a good boy, he deserves a peaceful end.

I've spent ahlf the day trying to set up an appt for at-home euthanasia, finally got a response, really nasty, basically couldn't schedule "at our convenience". hey, the cat is dying, how inconvenient is that/ She was apparently po'd I'd called "numerous times", then couldn't schedule on the day we wanted, acted like she was more interested in her own schedule than our cat. I will try somewhere else.
Or perhaps just go to the vet, at least we could get it scheduled that way.

Ah man that's really sad to hear. I'm with latetotheparty on this one. See if your vet can help or give a recommendation.

I totally agree. You definitely need someone more compassionate. Surely your vet can recommend someone. Our furbaby's vet didn't do house calls, but she recommended someone who was VERY compassionate and came whenever you needed them. Sending thoughts, hugs,&prayers.

Thinking of you and Mike. It's a hard decision, but ultimately the right one. He'll be sending you kisses from heaven.
