Default Siberian Cats

Has anyone had any experience with Siberian cats? I'm mainly interested in their personality, their shedding and the non-allergenic claims that are made about them.

If you're interested in a cat for people with allergies, I'm sorry, but I don't think they exist. I know of people who thought the Siberian cat wouldn't cause any allergic reactions, but they did.

You should borrow one Siberian for a week or so and see if you have any reactions. Or perhaps spend some time with a breeder.

I know they are beautiful and big cats though.

Your going to have to keep to the short or non-coated cats. Even then, there are no guarantees. I know they are touting Siberians as secreting less Fel D 1, but I have a girlfriend who paid over $1500 (no breeding rights) and she is having as much trouble with her allergies as ever. So bad, they think they will have to re-home the cat.
Sphynx, Cornish Rex and Devon Rex are among the short or non-coated breeds.

PS... I believe my friend said you can send off to some breeders for fur samples to see if your effected. I don't hold much faith in that tho. Usually, one is allergic to the skin dander not the fur itself.

Yes, people can even be allergic to Sphynx cats (hairless cats), because the allergen is in the skin, not the fur.

Don't mean to be rude, but You are wrong about siberians, they are hypoalergenc. The problem is that many people buying mix or Neva-Masquerade and think that they got real Siberian. You can find additonal info about the allergy, Siberian breed and hypoallergenic siberians on my website www.siberianmeow.com

We just got a Siberian cat. We LOVE him. He definitely has a great personality, but I think that any cat could have a similar personality. He follows us around the house, is super friendly, playful and smart. My daughter had a few sniffles the first day we had him, but now she has no reaction. My husband, continues to have a few sniffles, but nothing unbearable and it's much much much less than any other cat. We've had him for more than a month, if you have any questions, just ask! I love my Siberian!!

We have a two year old Siberian we got as a kitten. He rules the house. There is something about him. We love him to death. He is a clown and so self confident. He loves his mama and loves to tease the dogs. He does shed some and needs to be groomed regularly to avoid mats. His parents were protein tested before I bought him. Both were very low and I've had no allergy problems from him. I really love him, even though he was expensive. Couldn't imagine the house without him...
