I did a search in hopes of finding an actual picture. I didn't find a pic but there are lots of articles on it.

I'll have to try to get a snap when my own cats do it.

I read that some mammals (including cats and dogs) and reptiles have an organ in their mouth behind their upper front teeth that is tied in with their olfactory sense called Jacobson's Organ.

I don't normally use this source, but she does have a good explanation for this phenomenon.

The Nose Knows - Amazing Facts About Cats Sense of Smell

Quote:
Opening his mouth slightly enables the Jacobson's Organ to open up the ducts connecting to the nasal cavity. The appearance of the cat as he brings air into the Jacobson's Organ has sometimes been likened to a "smile," other times to a grimace.

Interesting! I'll try to get a picture too, next time I see it. First I have to figure out where I put my camera away when a kid came over. I usually leave it out for when the cats or dogs do something cute, so it doesn't have a designated place to be put away. When my daughter was little I was famous for hiding things from her..and then myself.

A couple of days ago my outside cat had a tick on her butt. I figured she would take care of it. Today she had three ticks on her butt. I decided to pick them off of there.

So there I am, holding a cat's butt while she's kicking and screaming. Anyway, the first tick came easy. The next two were a little more difficult. They were a dog tick and two deer ticks.

Afterward she had a couple of bloody spots where I pulled the ticks off. Maybe that's just because it's such a sensitive area. Afterward she was rubbing on me and rolling on her back. She didn't seem to be in pain.

I'm sure anybody who saw me got a good laugh at it.

Yet another reason for Jasper to be an indoor only cat. Dingleberries are plenty for me...

We tried her as an inside cat for about two weeks. After the peeing and fights we decided that we are all happier with her being outside. She wouldn't put up with being cooped up inside all the time, and our inside cats didn't want her in there.

I washed windows today. I have one funny Little Cat who has to be involved in everything I do. Most of the windows tilt in, but of course when I wash the sliding glass door I go out on the porch to do the outside.

Little Cat tried very hard to keep her eyes on my activities at all times. As my hand made circular motions on the glass door with the newspaper, her eyes, and then her head, started going in circles too.

I was laughing so hard it was difficult to stay upright.

Got a good look at the cat that's been hanging around. It's a tortoisheshell, which means female. Not good. I've not been leaving much food out, so hopefully she'll move on. I might eventually get overrun, but I'm hoping to avoid it as long as possible.
This bad news.
