WHAT? The county shelters or pounds are required to take all animals and cannot charge you. They're supported by the taxpayers. They will try and find them homes before euthanizing them. It should cost you nothing.

We don't have a pound. I'm gong to have a relative who lives in a county with a pound take them in for me, because that pound will not take them from my county.

The vet charges $30+ per euthanization. It is not an option.

I wish I could do more for them, but I can't. Animal Control is the only option. Most people in this county just dump, shoot, or drown stray kittens.

Default strays and their kittens

A stray i got when she was 10 weeks old has been here with her sisters since july 09. Two are fixed and this one had 5 kittens on march 31st. i took two in and got 3 adopted. I have had contact with them since birth but now that they are getting out of their enclosure i assumed it was time. I took 2 in who seem to be having a ball and the other three to a new home. BUT mommy cat is now screaming and walking around the house searching for them. How do i deal with her heartbreak? I feel terrible. The kittens seem fine without her but she seems distraught.

They will search for the missing kittens, especially is they're still producing milk. Once her breasts dry up she needs to be spayed without delay.

Oh, sorry. I thought you meant the shelter charges to euthanize them. have you tried, as a last resort, to advertise them on Craig's List? Ad' them in the closest city. It's worth a try.

Been done. No leads have come forward. A few people asked, but nobody has followed up.

Two of the black ones are male and one is female. I held the male and female black ones. They didn't like it, but they tolerated it. I held the other black male (the shiest one). He growled and squirmed and his momma got worried so I put him down. I think the two tabbies are female. There's a store here that might let me try to give them away, but I'll have to see if I can get somebody to help me (5 kittens is a lot to handle on your own). If I could even find homes for the gentler male kitten that would be one life saved. The only really skittish one is that one black male.

They're little enough that they'll be easy to tame. I wouldn't worry about that.

I hope to call a pet store around here and see if I can set up next Saturday (or probably Sunday, we'll be gone next Friday night and get home Saturday) to try to give them away, or at least the two males. Then whichever don't find new homes will probably have to be put down on Monday (although I haven't heard from every rescue yet). I'm not trying to rush into it, but my neighbor is still wanting me to get rid of them. But if I can get somebody to help me on Sunday, I may be able to at least give the males away. Even one kitten saved is a good thing.
