I'm allergic to cats now (adult onset allergy) and have heard these claim to be hypoallergenic. Anyone have any direct experience with these? I'd love to be able to own a cat again.

This actually differs between people. Some people who are allergic to cats, still have allergic reactions to Siberians. I think the best thing you can do is just spend some time with Siberian cats and check it out yourself.

You could visit a breeder and see how it goes.

What you are talking about is the F1D1. Some lines of Siberians are said to have a lower rating. It is the protein found in their saliva, which is secreted through a cats skin (anal glands and urine too). A reputable breeder will able to tell you how low their cats test...I believe 3.5 ( or somewhere around there) is the level which triggers allergies. ( I may be wrong on the exact numbers...it's been awhile since I researched it all for a friend). Know, not all Siberians are created equal when it comes to proteins and not all people can handle their allergies, regardless of the levels of proteins. You need to check with a breeder. Best scenario, no matter what the breeder tells you, is to spend a few hrs with a litter.
