Ok, I have a cat and 2 doors that squeak like anything when you open them. Very loud too. I know how to take care of a squeaky door, however I don't want my cat licking any of the stuff that I use.
Anyone know anything that the cat won't touch or won't harm the cat to stop the squeak?
I use a silicone spray. Silicone spray seems to last longer then Wd-40 for me. My cats don't care for the smell or the hiss from the can when it's being sprayed on. Just don't spray it all on at once. Just a little at a time and as stated above catch the drips with newspaper or a paper towel and promptly throw away.
Yea, me too. WD40 just makes the problem worse by dissolving whatever oils there were there. And, it totally stinks. Great product for rusty nuts. Not a good lubricant.
Real grease, preferably white silicone, is what is needed. But, if all you have is black petroleum based grease, you just remove the hinge pins one at a time and apply a light coat to the pin and put them back in. Or, an easy fix is to raise the pin a quarter inch and take onedrop of light machine oil at the top of the hinge pin. It will work its way down. But, you may have to do it again in a couple of years.
