She's known now because there's not alot of Female rappers out there like they used to be especially since other female rappers like Eve are doing other things besides rapping, like acting in movies and owning clothing stores. And besides, about the female rappers you've mentioned, no one questioned Lauryn Hill's legitamacy when she came out cause she got mad respect while Nicki Minaj does not get a lot of respect. Go Figure.
That's probably the case with most of the current artists out. Great post

I'm not fond of female rappers but one thing I will say is that Nicki Minaj doesn't want it with Kim, on the mic or in the streets.

We feel for you too. Shame!

Who watches videos just for the song?

Leave that for the radio, car stereo, outdated iPods, MP3 players, and CD players

Video demand is prevalent and ever growing.

You beat me to the punch.

Of course. Lil Kim is the Queen.

However, Nicki Minaj is good for what she is. And she is good.

Nikki Minaj is cute and her music videos are fun. Some of her songs have elements that I enjoy. She's animated and she's what the kids like. Complaining about her won't make her go away.

Minaj is only a few years younger than her predecessors, so I would hardly call her a different generation than the female MCs of the 1990s and 2000s. She does, however, cater to the younger crowd of 90s/00s born youth; most of whom could care less about Lil' Kim, Foxy Brown, or Lauryn Hill.

People our age can go on and on about how different music is these days, but at the end of the day, it's still about sex, drugs, violence, and money. Just like it was in the 90s.
