And s/he's now dating a boy. Bet she wishes s/he'd held off removing the breast. Perfect example of why parents shouldn't automatically give in to their children's desires for plastic surgery prior to maturing fully both mentally and physically.

She/he dates a man...but considers herself "gay" for being a female, who wants to be a male, and date other males. Wow. That is...confusing.

I agree....changing a gender is not a "whim"...and should only be done after living as that gender for a period of years. Becoming a male with all working anatomy is not really all that easy....Chaz Bono has not done that conversion. But I find Chaz more convincing....

Is this a new fad for rich Hollywwod kids? Who next? I am betting on Micheal Jackson's kids....one of them.

Marce30, that was not my point. More to the point of loose parenting and condoning having sex at home (anything goes mentality, I'm married and won't have sex at my parent's home). It has been some time since I've commented on these boards, Anyways, what an old thread. Still don't believe kids should be encouraged to have gender reassignment surgeries and or hormone therapy until they have been through life and know that is what they really want.

Who cares?! It's a free country, let the woman do what she wants. If the family wants to support it, great. If not, not my problem.

I don't get why dumb things like this get so much buzz. Would people care if your neighbor's daughter next door was getting a sex change except for maybe the other gossiping neighbors on the block? Nope.

I don't usually have much to say about transgender issues (since I'm not and can't relate) but I sort of agree with this. Not the tar and feather or jail part but the whole idea of it. I can't support anyone CUTTING UP a healthy body of any sex since A) the surgical dangers are very real B) there WILL be a life time of issues related to the surgery and C) you will never ever EVER be the "new" sex, it's just smoke and mirrors, gloss and makeup.

In some cases it may be the best decision but I can't imagine anyone coming to this conclusion at an early age and making it so. You may know you are different, you may know you are gay, but therapy and hormone treatments or living as the opposite gender WITHOUT medical intervention at least until the brain is mature. I'm talking mid 20's at the very earliest. There is just too much unknown here to do anything drastic, and surgery is always going to be an option so there is no need to rush.

Unfortunately I suspect some people get an obsession about having the surgery it at some point and can't let it go, which is actually the thing that needs to be treated before tackling the gender identity confusion.
