I was watchin a tv show last night, not sure what, maybe Criminal Minds??? It was a about a boy being molested by his stepdad. A thought has came to my mind wiould these type of storylines have effect the young actors playing the role of being molested/sexually abused
There was commentary and speculation postmortem that Heather Ledger that was having emotional issues which drastically affected his sleep patterns (and contributed to cause of death from a drug overdose in attempts to self medicate) in part as a consequence of tapping into something evil in his role as the Joker in The Dark Knight. I think method actors are likely to be most susceptible for fully immersing in the character they are playing.
No. There aren't (or at least shouldn't be) any effects on young actors. They are playing a role.
As for Heath Ledger, he wasn't all that "young" when he died. He was 29, nearly 30 years old. That's an adult by any standard. So there obviously some other issues at work there.
I think any time you chisel away the layer of innocence in a child, it is bound to hurt them. Even if they are just playing a part. Can't you remember being so unspoiled that the slightest view of reality led to lots of questions and confusion?
I think this is a very good question OP. After watching the film "Bastard out of Carolina" I did wonder what effect the horrific rape scene may have on the young actress Jenna Malone. i was lucky enough to spend part of a wonderful summer with Mary Louise Parker. She told me that some producers and directors insist that child actors see a therapist during filming if certain types of scenes involve them. Makes good sense to me. Great question!
Do you think there are effects on young actors and dramatic storylines?
Nope. Not at all.
