I was always concerned about Aretha Franklin, her personal experiences with commitment, and of course her weight. She never seemed to be able to get it under control. Sad news about this great icon. Very tragic.

the hardest thing about growing up and getting older is the very sad fact that all the people we loved and respected, known to us as friends,
and the entertainers we looked up to,are all gonna die before we are most likely!

Sad news for sure. Hope its not pancreatic cancer, it has one of the highest cancer death rates, almost impossible to beat. Wishing her the best.

Yes, it's highly improbable that she will beat this type of cancer but she still could survive for a few years. My hubby has esophageal cancer which is also one of the more "impossible to beat" cancers but after being told initially that he had 2 weeks to 2 months to live 4 years ago, the docs are keeping it at bay for the 3rd time. It's not pleasant for either one of us but he is still alive and living a fairly "normal" life! He's still dying but at a much slower rate, TG. So Aretha could "survive" this for a time. I wish her the very best.

tamiznluv, Aretha's weight has been an issue for her. She has talked about it for years and also went on differnt weight control programs. So the era in which she came from has nothing to with her weight. If she has taken steps to get a better control over it then great, there is nothing superficial about it. She could have or had a hear condition as a result of her weight. Anyways, again hopefully she doesn't have anything serious.
