Scarlett and Ryan: 'We've decided to end our marriage'

Good looks do not necessarily a good marriage make.
People magazine's Sexiest Man Alive and GQ magazine's Babe of the Year have split.
Ryan Reynolds and Scarlett Johansson said they are separating after just two years of marriage.
"After long and careful consideration on both our parts, we've decided to end our marriage. We entered our relationship with love and it's with love and kindness we leave it. While privacy isn't expected, it's certainly appreciated," the couple said in a joint statement to FOX411.com.

So who left whom?
A source told US Weekly that Scarlett, 26, left Ryan, 34, and that distance -- the old bugaboo when it comes to world traveling actor spouses -- was the main issue.
Hollywood strikes again!!

I never thought she was all that.

I am a little sad to see this relationship end. I saw them together after her Broadway run in Arthur Miller's 'A View From The Bridge' and they seemed so happy. Seems so difficult for Hollywood marriages to work. Same with Dexter's Michael C. Hall and Jennifer Carpenter. Another break-up yesterday was between British actors Anna Friel (Pushing Daisies) and David Thewlin (Harry Potter).

To survive the entertainment business.....people have to be very ego centered. I imagine it is hard two people like that to live together.

....or maybe they grew tired of fighting over the big bathroom mirror.

This is probably true. I think the marriages that last the longest are the ones where they marry someone who is NOT in the business. Less ego competitions that way.

I think there is a pressure for beautiful people to be with other beautiful people.

It's Hollywood! What else is new? That place has a 99% divorce rate, which is why I don't bother reading about celeb couples for most part!

I've never paid any attention at all to this Ryan Reynolds guy but he's on a movie that's on tv right now and I gotta just throw out there that I don't find him attractive at all. He's kinda funky faced.

I don't think Ryan was very nice to his last girlfriend, Alanis Morrisette.

Yeah I don't think being beautiful in itself would say anything about a marriage lasting.

There are actors and entertainers in long, or life-long, marriages though. Jerry Stiller and Anne Meara, both entertainers, have been married since 1954. They had a comedy act together and have been in many sitcoms separately and sometimes together. (Younger people, meaning my age, might know them as Ben Stiller's parents) An interesting thing about them is it's not like they both came from great childhoods then had a perfect marriage. Meara's mother committed suicide when she was 11, although Stiller's childhood sounds basically normal. Anyway Bob Newhart's been married for nearly 50 years, 47 to be exact. Carl Reiner was married for 65 years until his wife died two years ago.
