LOS ANGELES, Dec. 20 (UPI) -- U.S. actor Steve Landesberg, a star of the 1970s and '80s police comedy "Barney Miller," has died after a long battle with cancer, his agent said. He was 65.

R.I.P. Steve..........I always enjoyed his dry wit and the way he delivered lines. I also think he was way under rated as an actor.

R.I.P.

I fell in love with his character on Barney Miller he played him with so much "smooth soulful swagger".

Very sad - he was young. He will be missed. I loved that show.

I loved him as Detriech on "Barney Miller". That was my show back then. He joins Nick, Levitt and Inspector Lugar. May they all rest in peace.

I'll never forget his main character: Sgt. Dietrich on "Barney Miller", with his extraordinarily dry, deadpan humor; his comedic timing was impeccable...

BTW, he was actually 74 at his death...

I loved Barney Miller. I loved Sgt. Dietrich almost as much as I loved Fish.

RIP, Steve.
