I know that many countries seem to have a person that is almost universally treasured by its inhabitants - like South Africa has Nelson Mandela, the Philippines has got boxer Manny Pacquiao, Thailand has King Bhumibol Adulyadej (who's sat at the Thai royal throne since 1946!), Brazil has footballer/soccer player Pele and the list goes on and on.
Question is does America have its own version of the above figures, someone who's almost universally loved by its people or not? Can anyone answer? Thanks...
I don't think we have anyone who qualifies right now. I think we had JFK Jr up until his death and MJ up until his death. For someone to qualify as "most beloved" you'd need to imagine the type of impact their death would have - someone who's death would cause mass grief, and I can think of no one who would have that kind of impact.

Obama would have that impact on millions of people. Of course, there are others who would be dancing in the streets.
