Ok here we go. perhaps if they had just sung the song the way it was written it wouldn't have been so bad.

Not her best moment for sure.....but many great ones have had low points ....especially beyond their hey day.

"Dear Lover" was my favorite Teena Marie song. Miss Teena will be missed. Rip girl.

Great voice. I remembered her when I played your videos posted. Thanks.

Whoever said her voice is better on her worst day than Britney Spears...kudos...I totally agree. This gal had talent, so why did she not become even bigger?

if I had to guess it would be because she left Motown and lost a large chunk of her black audience

I think she was big but within the R&B world. All soul/funk people know about Teena. Maybe she wasn't too interested in trying too hard to cross over beyond that.

She had to leave Motown for contract reasons. In fact she sued Motown and got a new law passed with her name on it. It's called the Brockert Initiative.

I agree. "Lovergirl" was her only cross-over smash.

Yep I know but I think when she went to Epic they didn't know how to properly promote her and her music, which resulted in her losing a large chunk of her audience.
