Congratulations to her. Her fiancé is a lucky man.

Actually, that is old fashioned. There are plenty of women who have children nowadays before getting married. More and more young people see marriage as something archaic. If it's not for religious, financial or legal reasons, then what else is left. Tradition? I would never do something just because everyone else before me did it.

Who knows whether these two planned to have a baby together or if it was an accident. It's hard to believe it was an accident though. Portman's no Lindsay Lohan. She comes across as someone who's more mature and responsible. So if it was planned, then you'd think she would only do that if she was planning to raise the child with him anyway. Two people don't need to be married in order to be good parents. So if he's marrying her because he got her pregnant, that's probably not the best reason to marry someone.

Don't forget about Sandra.

Well she's not married yet is she? She definitely deserves something for her role in Black Swan, hopefully the heart-break/divorce curse doesn't get her.

Oh yeah, I forgot about Sandra Bullock. But then, who didn't see that divorce coming?

Portman doesn't exactly come off looking like a saint in all of this. Her fiancée dumped his previous live-in GF who he'd been with for 3 years all to be with Portman. Yeah, that's the kind of guy women dream about snagging.

I think family pressure is part of it. In many parts of the country, if you came home pregnant (and not married!), you would definitely hear about it Some families and communities are more traditional.

Yeah, I couldn't help noticing the timing of it all. This is usually when actors start campaigning for awards while claiming they're not campaigning. But a pregnancy and engagement sure do have a way of keeping you in the headlines and fresh on the minds of people who vote on awards. I'm not saying she got pregnant to win an Oscar. But publicity is a big part of winning and anything that draws good press helps. I never figured Portman to be the type who'd buy into the big Hollywood machine, but I guess you have to if you want to succeed there.

I thought she already married a mannequin. Oh wait, I'm confusing her with Queen Amidala.

so this woman is going to put up with morning sickness, gaining a ton of weight, wacked out hormones and for 9months and then squeeze a watermellon out of her boinker so she'll increase her odds of getting an award?

I'm not even a woman but....

maybe she just got pregnant. It happens.
