Yeah I'm sad. I liked her music and she was a real stunner. Talent and tragedy are so often linked together. RIP Whitney.

She was gorgeous and talented. Some of you here act like she OD'ed but I thought she had been off drugs the last few years. This is so sad

What a shock and so sad. Although I was never what you could call a fan - just not my type of music - I could still recognize a beautiful voice and talent.

There is a lot of jumping to conclusions here. Personally I will wait until more information is released - it could have been something totally not drug-related at all.

I don't know how old her daughter is but I hope she has strong family support; I have a feeling that her dad isn't going to be much help.

Not enough muscle mass, and the fat deposits hold it and don't cleanse it from the body as quickly.

Nothing against women y'all, its just human biology.
Female here and hey, I can old my hown.

It's a shame, the woman had a great voice. She came from a long line of successful female vocalists.

RIP Whitney.

I never knew Whitney was at one time deemed not "black enough". Moderator cut: see comment

Whitney Houston, superstar of records, movies whose career was ravaged by drugs, dead at 48 - The Washington Post (http://www.washingtonpost.com/local/obituaries/whitney-houston-regal-superstar-of-records-movies-whose-career-was-ravaged-by-drugs-dies/2012/02/11/gIQAhkJ96Q_allComments.html#comments - broken link)

Her decision not to follow the more soulful inflections of singers like Franklin drew criticism by some who saw her as playing down her black roots to go pop and reach white audiences. The criticism would become a constant refrain through much of her career. She was even booed during the “Soul Train Awards” in 1989.

“Sometimes it gets down to that, you know?” she told Katie Couric in 1996. “You’re not black enough for them. I don’t know. You’re not R&B enough. You’re very pop. The white audience has taken you away from them.”

Some saw her 1992 marriage to former New Edition member and soul crooner Bobby Brown as an attempt to refute those critics. It seemed to be an odd union; she was seen as pop’s pure princess while he had a bad-boy image, and already had children of his own. (The couple had a daughter, Bobbi Kristina, in 1993.) Over the years, he would be arrested several times, on charges ranging from DUI to failure to pay child support.

Her big come back tour was a flop because many in the crowd said she seemed to be under the influence of something, slurred speech, etc.

Even if she was off the harder drugs, they take their toll on the body of a woman much more then a man. Thats just biology. Her decade of crack use seems to have finally come to a tragic end.

I'm not trying to be hard on her, but the truth is that her drug use shortened her life.
