When Hemsley then appeared as Jefferson it was a riot to see the exchanges between him and Archie: Archie, of course, could not believe that a black man could possibly be 'prejudice' against white people ("honkies!"). All in the Family certainly suffered some when the Jefferson family 'moved on up' to the East Side.

I fondly recall Sherman's laughter (usually when he thought he had 'put one over' someone), and the way he strutted like a proud rooster (What Mr. Hemsley said was a "Philadephia strut"). Indeed, I believe that The Jefferson's has aged much better than All in the Family.

A remarkable show starring a remarkable comedic actor.

That's because the Jeffersons was a "topical show" like All in the Family

From what I've heard was he was complete opposite of George Jefferson. He was quite and usually soft spoken and several stated he was a nice man.

No, it isn't meant to bad mouth. If he was, good for him. If he wasn't that is okay too.

I wish all celebs who are Gay would come out, esp. the ones we admire, because then we are not so anonymous or threatening.

He was never involved with a man so why would he be gay?

Yeah a pathetic 4 hour tribute for a man who has been famous for almost 40 years
