Director of blockbusters like Top Gun and Man on Fire. Apparently he left a suicide note in his car parked on the bridge.

This is sad news. I hope he found peace.

Well that's puzzling news...yet, so Hollywood! More talent lost. Short supply these days. Sad!

pisses me off when people who decide to take their own lives then make it difficult for others. In this case they had to call in divers to retrieve the body. Traffic was held up for hours and barges and boats were stopped until the body was found. Jeepers-lie in your own bed and take your own life.

'Top Gun' director dies after jumping off bridge - Yahoo! omg!

The British-born Scott, who lived in Beverly Hills, was producer and director Ridley Scott's younger brother. Distinct visual styles mark both siblings' films — Ridley Scott mastering the creation of entire worlds with such films as "Gladiator," ''Blade Runner," ''Alien" and this year's "Prometheus," Tony Scott known for hyper-kinetic action and editing on such films as his most recent, the runaway train thriller "Unstoppable," starring regular collaborator Denzel Washington.

I do too. I just wish there was a socially acceptable way to end one's own life with family around. The poor guy had an inoperable brain tumor. If I had one, I would also want to die, as quickly as possible, and get on with it, rather than linger in pain and make a burden (physically and financially) of myself.

It's so unfair that we "lovingly" do it for our pets...but can't for own selves.

God bless Dr. Kevorkian for his pioneering work here. Maybe, one day, it will become an acceptable and loving way to end one's life.

You wonder what the deal was? If he was still making stuff like "Unstoppable," which was a great film, you would think he was feeling somewhat self-actualized.

His family has denied that. They said he had no health issues at all.

Sad news

he had brain cancer? I guess he preferred to end it . I heard chemo is rather painful. I wouldnt judge anyone who had to decide on this.

When I first read the OP I thought it was for finanncial reasons.
The stats are up for suicide over that.
