Gosh, John Denver - totally! He died way too young.

His dad (Leader of the Band) was my band director...I got to meet Dan a couple of times..he was a good sport entertaining a bunch of giggling teenage girls.

A lot of people saw him as the Intimidator, whether that perception was a good or bad image to them.

However, he was a great driver, a savvy & benevolent businessman, and a good guy who was the grand statesman of the drivers in the eyes of Nascar. The sport truly took a turn in the years after his death. I would love to have seen how the last decade would have been if Sr was adding his influence to the decisions being made in the sport.
I thought of Dale Sr also. It would be different now for sure. People didn't realize what a class act he truly was.

LOL 1st time I saw him perform (in Peoria) I was 17 and the age limit was 19. My sister vouched for me and so I got to see him at his funniest.
Sadly at 17 I didn't get most of his stuff but I knew he was something special!
