Frank Bank, the actor who played bullying Lumpy Rutherford on the hit 1950s sitcom "Leave It to Beaver," died Saturday, one day after he turned 71, the Los Angeles Times reports.
Have some respect for Clarence, he did not like to be called Lumpy. I hope he is resting in peace with his thoughtful and considerate TV daddy.......Fred Rutherford, whom passed away Aug 8, 1984 from too many barrel hoops in the driveway.
Fun to watch Clarence and Eddie working together on some of those pranks and schemes, then having Wally catch up with them in the end to force a confession, and dump ice cream on them or something. Or the one where he parks in front of the house with a mask on, and Beaver and Gilbert called the cops on him, or the one where he tried to shake down the Beaver to pay for a watch he thought Beaver stole but found later. Or the one where they are supposed to haul trash to the dump, but throw it in an empty lot, and the owner finds a magazine with Ward's address on it, and comes over to chew him out. Or the one where they change the grade on Beavers report card...........
Fred Bank's character warmed my heart when I was a boy watching Leave it to Beaver, and still does when I watch reruns. I love that show and even today, it is one of my favorites. Lumpy was an endearing character and Bank played it exceptionally well. He brought joy to the lives of millions with his portrayal of Lumpy and his positive contribution spanned generations. Great character. Fred Bank was a great man.
May he rest in peace. I will continue to cherish his work for the rest of my life and I thank him for giving us that.
Lumpy was the chubby one. Eddie Haskell was Wally's "friend".
R.I.P. Clarence/Frank.
Oh thanks. What was the other friend of Wally's that was a little bigger. I can't think of his name. Was it Clarence?
