It's not and thanks for getting this thread back on topic.

Whut? I'm sure all you savvy Hollywood types knew this already. Apparently Charlie Sheen is going to use his real name: Carlos Estevez in his next movie.

Did you happen to see "The Breakfast Club" or "Young Guns?"
Both starred Charlie Sheen's brother and another of Martin Sheen's sons - Emilio Estevez.

Not a problem. I'd rather be a 10 million dollar a movie moron than a 9.00 an hour genius.

Yes I love the Young Guns. Back then the rumor was that their mother was Mexican or something. And Charlie took the dad's last name and Emilio took the Mom's last name. I had no idea that their real last name was Estevez. I guess Hollywood is run by people who think (or thought) that Americans would have a hard time accepting actors with "exotic" names.

Personally I think it is a shame. This is news to me because Martin's real name is so long and so different from his stage name. He said his dad was really upset that he changed his name.

I wonder if Emilio felt more comfortable using his given name because he's what I call a "lechero gringo." He has blond hair and blue eyes so casting directors would have been less likely to try to label him "ethnic" and reduce his chances of getting work.

Years ago, if an actor wanabe had a name the studio heads deemed too ordinary, too foreign or any other reason they could drum up, the name change occurred. Rock Hudson was Roy Sherer. Tony Curtis was Bernie Schwartz. Marilyn Monroe was Norma Jean Doughtery. It was beginning to change about the time Martin Sheen's boys decided to be actors. Paul Newman's name wasn't changed.

If Emilio ever had blond hair, it must have been for a film.

Emilio's is considered blond/rubio in a lot of Spanish-speaking countries.

I consider it blond, too. Maybe a lot of gringos would consider it light brown? You can read all about it in one of the threads in the international section, if you'd like.

It really doesn't matter to me what color it is. I only thought it isn't blond when I've seen him in a movie. I added it to my post as an after thought, since what I wrote about him is my perception. It is not anything I need to prove. I opened the thread because of the subject of different names of celebrities.

Yeah I knew this years ago. Used to spend a lot of time reading IMDB.

So many actors change their names for various reasons.

Winona Ryder = Winona Horowitz

Natalie Portman = Natalie Hershlag

Mel Brooks = Melvin Kaminsky

IMDb: 101 Stars who changed their names for the sake of their careers! - a list by dropshadow5
