Iconic rocker Lou Reed has died today at the age of 71, reports Rolling Stone in a lengthy obituary celebrating the "massively influential songwriter and guitarist who helped shape nearly fifty years of rock music." No cause of death was immediately released, but Reed underwent a life-saving liver transplant in May.

What a shame. I remember way back when I was in high school the song Take A Walk On The Wild Side was considered shocking and scandalous.

Good music. I'm surprised he lived as long as he did.

Lou, in spite of a few ridiculous things he did during his career, was truly a rock 'n' roll genius.

Lou Reed would be the first one to tell people that he didn't consider himself a "rock" star.

Although it wasn't even a top-ten hit, I remember his "Walk on the Wild Side" with its catchy tune. Too bad the PC cops and the perpetually offended ultimately edited and mangled his song, just as they did with Dire Straits' biggest hit.

Way back in 1974 or so, Creem Magazine had a contest of some kind, "predict the next rock star to die" or somesuch, and Lou Reed tied with Keith Richards.

Both sure disproved that one!

True, with Bob Dylan and Leonard Cohen, one of the top three poets that ever came out of Rock-N-Roll.
