I just saw that, and am saddened. He was a fine actor, and although Professor Roy Hinkley was his most famous role, it was only one of many great characters he played over the years. He was also a World War II vet, receiving a purple heart after his plane was shot down over the Phillipines. Thank you Russell Johnson for your service to our country, and for being such a huge part of my childhood, along with your fellow castaways.

I just saw him the other night on an old episode of Gunsmoke. I didn't realize it was him until the credits rolled.

RIP, Professor.

Default Russell Johnson positively impacted millions

Like all the other members of the cast of 'Gilligan's Island', this man is beloved. I felt that as long as Russell Johnson was alive, there is good somewhere in the world. He will forever positively impact the lives of millions in his role as "The Professor". As a kid, I cherished his role in that series. He was an example of someone educated, smart, and positive, and this helped frame my perspective on the importance of an education. He made me appreciate subjects like science and math, and I ultimately would major in math and computers as an undergraduate, then focus on scientific applications, before going into law. Russell Johnson was an incredible inspiration, and this great man will forever be honored in my heart. Thank God he can live on through his work.

RIP Professor

Poor Professor was blind to Gingers wiles. a shame in RL more men aren't more like his character.

Russell Johnson certainly was underrated in his field, and that's because he just simply brought something good to the table in everything he did. He had a great persona about him and he can play any role very well. In the minds and hearts of many, as well as to this poster, he'll always be "The Professor".
