I always thought that Nick Nolte and Gary Busey were the same person.

Toby Maguire and Jake Gyllenhaal confused me for years. When I saw one I thought it was the other.

A few years back, I thought that Justin Timberlake and James Vanderbeek were the same person. The only reason I learned differently was a friend cracking up and making fun of me when I mentioned one in place of the other. To me they were both young, good looking guys that were teenage heartthrobs, always in the news, who started with a J sound and ended with a K sound. I stored them both in the same part of my brain I guess.

I just figured out this week that Jimmy Kimmel and Jimmy Fallon are two separate people. When I would hear about one, I would just assume it was about the other. They're both funny guys close to my age, with brown hair, who are comedians and TV hosts. I've seen them both, and I guess I enjoyed them both. Apparently, one of them will be taking over for Jay Leno, and the other won't.

I also kind of get mixed up with Jennifer Connelly and Jennifer Garner. Both pretty brunette actresses who don't make a huge impression on me.

Is anyone else out there as "celeb-illiterate" as I am? Who have you mixed up, thinking they were the same person?

What a fun thread you thought of!

I once was reading some article about how some person (I forget who, I think a politician) said that they had just learned that "J Lo" and "Jennifer Lopez" were the same person. I was flabbergasted, for up to that time I thought it was two different singers.

Otherwise, there are three male actors I confuse easily: Neil Patrick Harris (How I Met Your Mother); James Vanderbeek and Christopher Masterson (eldest brother of Malcohm in the Middle). They could be triplets.

OMG, that's the funniest thing I've read all week. I thought it was funny when I first read it, but thought you did it on purpose. Now it's hilarious. I have tears on my cheeks!

As to the OP, I don't know anybody famous these days. If the two Jimmys walked into my living room, I wouldn't know which was which.

I'm totally out of the loop. Unless one of them gets really stupid like Bieber, I wouldn't know them at all. I only very recently figured out who Justin Timberlake is and I'm still not sure what he does. I haven't had cable for almost a year, so I'm watching more mainstream TV and am kinda figuring out who a few folks are. Not that I'm proud of that. It just is.

I could understand if you got Tina Fey and Sarah Palin mixed up...

When Heath Ledger passed away, I originally thought it was Christian Bale because they were in the same movie at the time (The Dark Knight).

I used to mix up Melissa De Sousa and Judy Reyes. They sometimes look similar to me.

I often say Dylan McDermott when I mean Dermot Mulroney, and vice versa. Dean McDermott doesn't help things, either.

To a lesser extent, I may mix up Zoe Saldana and Rosario Dawson.

That's about it.

Back in the 90s I thought that Owen Wilson was Matthew McConaughey after getting hit in the nose.
