Maybe he should have been flying the millennium falcon instead.

Conflicting reports about the extent of his injuries. Ford's vintage plane came down on a golf course, and help arrived immediately, with two golfing doctors rushing to assist. It's been reported that Ford suffered "head gashes", but walked away, and that an ambulance arrived quickly and he was taken to the hospital. Pictures of the plane appear to show it upside down. (Later - another photo of the plane shows it upright. Ford was the only occupant).

But that's where the reports vary: some say Ford is in serious condition, a few say he is in critical condition, which would seem to conflict considerably with the report that he was ambulatory. Head injuries are famous for bleeding profusely, so perhaps a witness unaware of this overreacted and catastrophized.

A later report says there were fractures in addition to the head lacerations, but that Ford is in serious condition, not critical condition. Again, lots of conflicting reports are making the rounds.

Time will tell. Meanwhile, best wishes to Harrison Ford, and kudos to the doctors who responded so quickly to provide first aid.

Looks pretty rightside-up to me, though it's definitely scrapyard bound.

"We can confirm that there was a plane crash and the male occupant was a 65-70 years old man. He was transported to a local hospital in stable condition," Los Angeles Police Department spokeswoman Officer Nuria Vanegas said.

1) Looks like they didn't realize who the blood-covered old guy was, and

2) Even through the blood, 72-year-old Harrison Ford apparently looks young for his age.

I've just seen this on CNN. They put a series of pictures of "Ford through the years" as if he was dead. Creepy.

He was smart to land on a golf course. He knew that there would be plenty of doctors on hand.

The article identified the plane as a "vintage WW II fighter" but it looks very much to me like a 1933 Ryan PT-22 Recruit, a two seater used to train army air corp pilots.

Is this not the same plane as in the picture of the wreck?

Story talks as if he's a veteran crasher. Reminds me of a line from one of his movies. "I've flown with you twice, you've crashed half the time." Let's hope my generation's super star is gonna be o.k. he's already getting long in tooth.

The golf course must have been wet and soft because the tracks the plane left looks like both gear dug in possibly throwing the prop into the ground. I've seen this happen to a loaded agricultural spray plane in a wet field. If so, it would have been an abrupt stop.

Good to hear he's going to be okay. He'll live to fly another day.
