Nope it's the lighting in the pictures/camera. I'm black, more of Sanaa Lathans complexion, and my son is a shade or two lighter than me. In the summers I am about a shade or two darker because of the sun, and so is my son. In the winter I'm always a shade lighter and my son is as well. During spring and fall I am my regular complexion. In other words my skin tone changes with the weather and I do not bleach my skin nor do I lay in the sun to tan. Many brown people will change shades throughout the year, and it's quite normal for camera lighting to effect how skin color looks, as indicated in the pictures you've shown.
It can be quite difficult to tell the difference when you're looking at magazine photos (or even online photos) that are taken in artificial light, and when they're probably Photoshopped. Magazines do tend to "brighten" skin tones of models and celebrities when they publish them, even online.
If we were comparing two photos taken in natural daylight, with standard camera equipment, that we knew were not retouched with software... then I'd be ready to make a guess.
If you're born with the skin tone of Oprah and later alter it to the one of Mariah Carey, it is becoming "unnatural."
She hasn't lightened her skin. Multiple people in this thread have told you that they appear darker or lighter in photos depending on time of year and lighting. It's not unheard of. It's very possible that she had a dark tan when the first photo was taken (yes, black people tan). You're basing your opinion on a couple of pictures. Have anything more convincing? Yeah, didn't think so.
