He had a party at Paisley Park the other night, and mentioned the recent rumors about his poor health. A friend of mine from Minneapolis was there, and she mentioned it on her Facebook page - she said the last thing he said to the people at the party was, "Wait a few days before you waste any prayers on me."

A shame. The same 24/7 internal narrative that reverberated inside his head both fueled his genius and, at the same time, is what made him come across as strange to so many people. That's often the nature of genius.

I'm remembering an awful lot of nights at First Avenue, when he was first coming up and we were all just starting to realize what he was all about. We all knew he was something very special, but I think it took a little while for most of us to realize just how special. Back in that era, we were spoiled, because the Twin Cities music scene was maybe the hottest in the country. But by the time you'd seen 2 or 3 of his shows, you knew.

This news hurts my heart. Rest in peace dear Prince. You were like no other and no one will ever be like you.

What a shock. He was one of my favorite musicians.

He was a prolific songwriter and I understand he has thousands of songs that have never been released. We should be in for a treat in the next few years.

But, what a shame. He was too young to die.

Shocked about this news is an understatement! It's a shame! Prince was most definitely a music legend. Never got to see him in concert, regrettably.

Makes me want to make a conscious effort to see as many of these music artists live in concert as I possibly can afford, because the way this year has gone, who knows if you'll ever get a chance to hear from them again?

Did he really? Wow.

Rest in peace, Prince. One of my favorites.
