First, I have to admit that I'm not a Leslie Jones fan. Most of the time I see her on SNL, I just sort of cringe. Not because of the person she is in real life, but of the characters she usually plays and how she plays them. Just not funny.
And I can fully believe that the new Ghostbusters movie isn't funny -- I never thought the original movie was funny or worth watching even though I liked Bill Murray & Dan Akroyd's characters on SNL back in the day.
But I feel sad about all the Twitter hate, and direct assaults on her feelings. She plays a loud-mouth, overly assertive domineering beast of a woman most of the time on TV, but most of the time celebrities are nothing like the characters they play in real life, and chances are she is a very nice person.
I think a lot of these people on Twitter have trouble distinguishing TV characters from reality, and have judged her accordingly. Shame on them. I just hope she can learn to ignore them, she will need to have thick skin in the entertainment industry. If she can diversify her characters a bit it might help.
SNL has a comedy problem these days anyway. I'm not saying she's helping the situation but it's certainly not solely her fault.
Yes, I have read about the unfortunate tweets from racist and hateful trolls. I don't watch SNL but my mom says she's funny. Her commercials make me laugh. It's like she knows she's not what is considered beautiful plus her size doesn't help. She makes the most of her life and not allowing naysayers get to her.
But I don't think the hateful tweets from aholes out there are partially her fault. People are just mean and she will have to learn how to ignore them though I know it's hard.

I haven't seen her commercials. She can be funny when she's in the right skit on SNL. An example was when Peter Dinklage was on SNL, there was a "naked reality show" spoof that took advantage of both actor's physical size, and was a successful casting exercise as a result.
But, it's the same as if Peter Dinklage was a regular on SNL and they started making skits about dwarfism on every show just to find room for him on the show, it would get old after a while, even if they had some really creative solutions.
Leslie might be able to branch out a little bit, and if she's able to show diversification in the type of roles she can play, she might have a reasonable career ahead of her. Whether she is successful or not, the kind of things people say and do on Twitter and FB makes me sad. If I were a celebrity I would not connect with fans at all. The Internet is basically an experimental stomping ground where people bring out the worst in themselves and say things they would never say in person. Some celebrities seem to let it all roll off, but her comment that she was hurt by all of this tells me she might want to avoid reading what people say.
That said, I really wish SNL would use her sparingly. She's not another Tracey Morgan, who is just a naturally funny dude who has the talent to just be himself and fit into a lot of different skits and still make people laugh.

She actually started the whole mess by calling Milo Yiannopoulos, who gave a negative review of the film, an Uncle Tom ******. His fans responded and unfortunately you can't control what your fans do or say. Were the negative tweets to her right - no they weren't - but who showed their true colors first? Calling him a ****** was uncalled for.
Unfortunately, the media again is not providing the full story - that's why I take everything with a grain of salt until I research it myself.
Thing is, the haters aren't dissing her comedy, they are dissing her appearance, her race and her gender.
As far as her calling Milo Yiannopoulos names for giving a negative review of her film, if that is really true, she's not the first celebrity to do that. Yiannopoulus can respond by knocking her acting or the movie but to make such personal comments as he has done is uncalled for.
Everyone on twitter, whether they're a celebrity or not, has to learn to stop paying attention to the trolls. You can take it for granted that there are maladjusted sociopaths spending tons of time stirring up nonsense on twitter. There's no way to really get rid of them the way it's set up now... you can block some, but others will just pop up in their place. Celebrities are perfect targets. They should either stop reading the comments, or let a PR person write the tweets for them so that they don't have to deal with twitter at all. Twitter's basically an open sewer of anonymous people spouting vile comments. It even amazes me how many people are trolls, using their own identities...some people are so out of touch with reality they just don't give a rat's.

Milo gave a negative review - he did not call her any names - please research!

These are some of her tweets - who's the racist?
After seeing those, I am no longer sad for her, but I do hope she gets the help she needs. In the meantime the celebrity component of her career needs to end, she is like the black equivalent of Michael Richards (Kramer).

Whoa! I hadn't seen those.
