Some Italians are very fair complexion and have light eyes and non-Italian features (like the nose) and some even have lighter colored hair.

While I don't have an Italian surname (my mom's mother is where I get it from) I do have darker hair and eyes, and olive complexion. I do have a friend that's Italian and he and his sister are very pale, even their dad (born in Italy) is not too olive toned but is a little bit. But their younger brother is actually VERY olive complexion.

My mother and I are 100% Italian and we are both taken for Irish or French all the time. We have fair skin, hazel eyes and freckle if we go out in the sun. Our ancestors were Calabrese and Napolitano.

Now your Southern Italians or Sicilians have more of the "typical" Italian features.

True! My favourite mugshot of all time though, has to be after Hugh Grant got caught with... er... a working lady! Awkward! I'm sure I don't have to remind anybody...

My Grandparents were from Naples & had 9 children. My Uncles had dark complexions with dark brown hair. My Aunts & Dad had light brown hair, fair skin & blue eyes. Everyone thought my father was Irish. My Mother is of Polish decent. No one thinks that I am half Italian w Blonde hair and Blue eyes.

There are a lot of blond, blue-eyed Italians. The stereotype of the Italian look is the southern and Sicilian look. In medieval times there were a lot of Arabs in Sicily and southern Italy, and there were also people from Africa or of mixed blood Arab and African. Look on a map. There is water, and that means there were ships and travel and trade, and well, sex happens.

As far as the northern parts, has the OP never heard of the Lombards?

And what about THESE Italians? I am in the U.S., and I heard of these people decades ago! Surely Scots would also know...

So true. My mother's ancestors on both sides came from the Netherlands. Picture all those yellow-haired, blue-eyed people, right?. She had dark brown eyes and black hair.
